ARE YOU SUITABLE FOR IUI?

ARE YOU SUITABLE FOR IUI?

The bane of infertility is being fast replaced with hundreds of options for fertility and childbirth. Infact Chennai is now recognized as a safe centre for laser assisted hatching, In-vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI). Among these ICSI is a direct procedure where the sperm is injected into the oocyte and IUI is where sperm is injected into the uterine cavity and allowed to swim towards and penetrate the oocyte. The IUI procedure is more popular since it is akin to natural insemination and the costs are much less.

Is IUI for you?

If you have chosen to perform IUI you should consult your doctor to know whether you are the right candidate for the procedure. First your doctor needs to confirm whether your fallopian tubules are open and not blocked in any way. This is mandatory for the IUI procedure to be successful.

Next your doctor will have to determine if you have enough quality eggs in your ovaries and then check for your hormone levels to know whether they are within minimum healthy levels.

If there is a problem of cervical mucus then the doctor may advise you to try IUI because the injected sperm can bypass the low quality cervical mucus and enter the uterus straightaway. If the male partner has a low sperm count or poor sperm movement then the sperm washing process is recommended to help get pregnant.

Finally allow a fertility specialist to give you a thorough examination and determine the best process for you only then they can determine whether you are the right candidate for an IUI procedure.

Other fertility options

The IUI may not be possible in all women and there are certain groups of women who cannot perform IUI like those suffering from endometriosis. The doctor conducts many tests including a HSG which is an X-ray for analyzing the health and structure of the fallopian tubes and to see whether they are blocked. If you are over 40 years or you have low ovarian reserve the doctor will recommend other fertility treatments like ICSI and IVF.

ICSI is the procedure of directly injecting the sperm into the oocyte; this treatment is also recommended if the male partner has low sperm count. The IVF is a procedure where a woman’s oocytes and a man’s sperms are harvested. The oocyte is then kept with the sperms and allowed to develop before implanting in the mother’s womb.

It is now known that for procedures like IVF, ICSI and IUI, Chennai has become a popular destination and there are several fertility centers that can handle these procedures with high success. For best pregnancy rate choose the best center with state of the art facilities and best pregnancy rates.
